Alice, Sweet Alice (1976)
Directed by Alfred Sole
If I’d seen Alice, Sweet Alice as a young person I may have a more nostalgic and precious experience to draw from for later viewings. Instead, having first seen it well into adulthood, I’m left with a film that, for me, generally doesn’t hold up well and isn’t actually terribly scary (and includes some olympic-level melodramatic acting that will elicit more chuckles than scares). That said, there are some incredibly effective set pieces such as the one in the clip we’ve shared (and of course the far more popular “warehouse scene” with Brooke Shields).
If there were a category of film titled “Great Films To Play In the Background At a Party” this one would score much more highly.
